Issues Facing Carlsbad Today and in the Future:

Alga Norte Park and Pool Complex
   - I support the immediate construction of Alga Norte Park.  It is a long overdue project that our community has supported for quite some time.  We must take advantage of lower construction costs while we can.  The savings will allow us to run operations of the park for possibly 10 years or more without having to dip into the General Fund.

Declining Revenue from Developers
- Our city has begun to reach build-out and with that we are losing a large source of income from developers.  I plan to immediately start the aggressive recruitment of businesses that can call Carlsbad home.  A committee, designated solely to advance our tax revenue base, should be drawn up.

Westfield Shopping Center
-
I support an agreement between the City and Westfield to develop the parking areas around Westfield Mall for use as entertainment venues, restaurants, and other tourist and shopper draws.

Open Space
-
Open Space is a key part of any city.  It preserves our wildlife, habitats, plant life, and offers a wide array of outdoor activity opportunities.  I support the purchase and upkeep of these areas for the betterment of our community.

Welcome    Latest Update: Riehl World: The New vs. The Good Old Boys

Carlsbad Voters and Residents,

In an ever changing world, we are faced with tough decisions everyday. Over the history of this great city, your leaders have been faced with those same tough decisions. With courage and conviction they have made the choices that have molded and sculpted Carlsbad into what it has become today.

With past visions now upon us and the future of tomorrow staring us in the eye, it is time to find the right leaders to guide our fine city into a new era. It is an era where we want to capture and maintain all that is good about Carlsbad, show off the culture of the area and strengthen the existence of a great family environment.

Carlsbad is a destination spot for thousands every year and called home to many more. I ask for your vote so that I can play an integral part on the Carlsbad City Council in helping preserve this city for generations to come.

Sincerely,

Jon Wantz
Candidate for Carlsbad City Council 2010
